Website Accessibility Statement for Haydon Wick Parish Council
This accessibility statement applies to https://haydonwick.gov.uk/.
This website is run by Haydon Wick Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
To assist with accessibility, Haydon Wick Parish Council uses the UserWay Accessibility Widget.
Located on the left of the website, this widget offers a range of functions that users can tailor to their needs. Settings are saved for future visits. Features include (but are not limited to):
- Keyboard navigation

How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Most older PDF and Word documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- Some scanned documents (including signed or archived material) are not machine-readable
- Some images may not have appropriate alternative text
- Some third-party content may not fully meet accessibility standards
Non-accessible content
Non-compliance with accessibility regulations
The following content does not fully comply with WCAG 2.1 AA:
- Older PDF documents (e.g. agendas and minutes prior to 8 January 2021)
- Scanned documents such as signed audit papers
- Some video and third-party embedded content
Third-party content
Some third-party elements are not fully accessible:
- Google Maps – does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). Written location details are provided as an alternative.
- Google reCAPTCHA – does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.6 (headings and labels). Users can contact the Parish Clerk as an alternative.
Disproportionate burden
A significant number of historic documents are not fully accessible.
The Council considers it would be a disproportionate burden to retrospectively make all archived documents compliant due to the volume and format (including scanned files).
However:
- New documents will be created with accessibility in mind wherever possible
- Accessible versions will be provided on request
Content not within scope of the regulations
The accessibility regulations do not require the Council to fix PDFs or other documents published before 8 January 2021 if they are not essential to providing services.
This includes historic agendas, minutes, and financial documents.
