Youth Christmas Party

Youth Christmas Party 800 800 Georgina Morgan-Denn

On Monday 19th December, the Council hosted over 50 young people from the parish and their parents/carers attend the youth Christmas Party with Razzamatazz.

The entertainment was fantastic, engaging, and magical. The children waved their hands, said the magic words and from out of nowhere appeared a beautiful little dog called peaches.

Parents and carers enjoyed a mince pie and got to watch and join in with their child/children. The feedback from parents and carers has been incredible and gratefully received.

Lots of games and competitions took place which everyone thoroughly enjoyed before special guest, Rudolf appeared, and gave each child a lovely gift. The evening was drawn to a close with a huge snowball fight and some unexpected snow.

This proved to be a hugely successful and Haydon Wick Parish Council is looking forward to working alongside Razzamatazz again in the future.

“Quality Gold award-winning Haydon Wick Parish Council, and other local councils like it, are at the front line of the government’s localism agenda and are doing as much as they can to delivery services whilst being efficient and cost-effective”.

Haydon Wick Parish Council has received the highest accolade Quality Gold award as part of the Local Council Award Scheme. The Award Scheme offers three levels of accreditation, Foundation, Quality and Gold, with a Quality Gold Award confirming that a council is at the forefront of best practice and achieves excellence in all areas.

This achievement recognises that the council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement. Moreover, Haydon Wick Parish Council goes above and beyond their legal obligations, leading their communities and continuously seeking opportunities to improve and develop even further.

On reviewing the Council’s submission, the panel praised the Council’s submission and commented on how impressed they were with such good practices in governance, community engagement and council improvement.

This award represents a significant achievement for it is the first Council in Swindon to be accredited at the Quality Gold level.

The Local Council Award Scheme is a peer assessed programme promoting and recognising councils that are at the cutting edge of the sector. It is through the sector working together to share best practice, drive up standards and supporting those who are committed to improving their offer to their communities that individual councils and the sector will reach its full potential.

Councillor Vinay Manro, Chairman of the Council had this to say: “Receiving the news of our achievement was a fantastic way to end 2022.  I am incredibly proud of what our Council has achieved. We work consistently hard to develop the community to be the best it can be, and by achieving this Quality Gold Award reflects that commitment”.

To celebrate this award the Council is planning a presentation at its Annual Council Meeting in March 2023. In terms of the future, the Council is now reviewing ways in which it can keep on improving its offer to the local community and welcomes input from local people and partners on this. Haydon Wick Parish Council, and other local councils like it, are at the front line of the government’s localism agenda and are doing as much as they can to delivery services whilst being efficient and cost-effective. Currently the Council provides a range of services from a community bus, memory café, youth programme, community cafes, leisure garden/allotment sites, and enhanced grounds maintenance service, and wants to improve its community engagement through these services.

Christmas comes to Haydon Wick Memory Café

Christmas comes to Haydon Wick Memory Café 800 800 Georgina Morgan-Denn

‘It’s lovely to see so many of our regulars with smiles on their faces, especially at this time of year”

Christmas came early to Haydon Wick Parish Council’s Memory Café on 14th December 2022. Café attendees were greeted by staff and volunteers dressed in festive outfits, and cheerful Christmas music playing in the background. The room was warm and welcoming, courtesy of a sparkling Christmas tree and a backdrop image of a coal fire, surrounded with toys and wrapped presents.

To kick off the festivities, the café welcomed a choir from Haydonleigh Primary School, who entertained those present with their carol singing. Toddlers from the neighbouring Meadow Pre-School then popped in, bearing Christmas cards and chocolates.

The next activity was Christmas wreath making with seasonal foliage. The Parish Council’s talented Administrator demonstrated her creative skills by leading the session, and helped those present to create a festive garland, which they were then able to take home with them.

This was followed by our regular fitness instructor, who quickly warmed each one of the attendees up with some gentle exercises to Christmas music. Lin’s enthusiasm and festive play list brought smiles to all present.

Finally, we were delighted to have Father Christmas join the café – our thanks to Councillor Richard Hailstone for helping us again this year.  The very talented Father Christmas provided musical accompaniment on his keyboard, while everyone sang traditional Christmas carols. Afterwards he handed out gifts and a raffle was drawn. This year’s raffle prizes were once again kindly donated by Parish Councillors and Council staff.

Rebecca Ross, Chair of the Community Development committee said: ‘’ Haydon Wick is rightly proud of its award-winning Memory Café, and it’s lovely to see so many of our regulars with smiles on their faces, especially at this time of year. The Parish Council is always grateful for the support of its volunteers, who turn up at each café to support this valuable project.”

Christmas Parcel Project 2022

Christmas Parcel Project 2022 800 800 Georgina Morgan-Denn

This annual project is more than just delivering a Christmas parcel, it’s a way of checking in on some of our most vulnerable residents and gives us the opportunity to have a chat.

Haydon Wick Parish Council successfully delivered the traditional Christmas Parcel Scheme again this year, spreading festive cheer and goodwill to those residents in need across the Parish.

Councillors, Staff and Volunteers worked hard to pack and deliver the parcels on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th December 2022, to make sure the community project continued to help those over 70 years old, who live alone within the Parish.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor Vinay Manro said:

“This winter has continued to bring challenges for many. The Council is proud to be able to continue with this long-standing tradition in bringing some festive cheer and goodwill to some of those who are most in need within our parish. This annual project is more than just delivering a Christmas parcel, it’s a way of checking in on some of our most vulnerable residents and gives us the opportunity to have a chat. Most of all it’s reassuring for our residents to know there is a friendly face available should they need support”.

The community Christmas project delivered over 130 parcels to residents across the parish. The packages included festive food and other treats. The Council has been humbled by the generosity of its volunteers and local groups who come together every year to help with this project and would like to pass on their thanks to: Morrisons and the Redeemed Christian Church of God for their very generous donations.

Annual Christmas Card Competition

Annual Christmas Card Competition 800 800 Georgina Morgan-Denn

‘Finley was very excited and accepted his prize with great enthusiasm’

Each year Haydon Wick Parish Council run a Christmas Card Competition for young people who reside in the Parish. It is the perfect opportunity for primary school aged children to get creative by either designing their own festive scene or use a template and demonstrate their fantastic colouring skills.

This year’s winning design, named ‘Everything’ by Finley, was chosen by Councillors and Staff. His school and parents were informed and together they decided not to inform Finley until he was surprised in front of his friends and peers during his school assembly on Monday 12th December.

Finley was very excited and accepted his prize with great enthusiasm. Finley’s parents and school are all very proud his achievement and how artistic and creative he is. His prize was two packs of cards with his design on, personalised tea towel and stocking, as well as some new craft supplies to keep encouraging his artistic skills.

As in previous years the winning design will feature on the Christmas Card included in the Parish Council’s Christmas Parcel Scheme. For over 30 years the Council has been delivering parcels to elderly residents living alone in the Parish.  Over 150 parcel recipients will be overjoyed to see Finlay’s special card design this year.

There will be more competitions and youth events during 2023. Please keep updated by visiting the Council’s website and social media (@Haydon Wick Council) https://haydonwick.gov.uk/.

Cliffords Meadow Update

Cliffords Meadow Update 800 800 Georgina Morgan-Denn

Residents overlooking Cliffords Meadow were delighted to inform us of the arrival of some new neighbours this morning, in the form of 200 sheep that have been placed in the adjoining fields behind the railway track. These are under the care of the tenant farmer who currently also has cattle in Cliffords Meadow and will be situ until March. We would like to remind everyone that Cliffords Meadow is private and should not be accessed by members of the public, whilst the number of cattle in there at present are small there are plans for more cattle to join the existing herd shortly. If you are out walking across the fields in the vicinity, please do also stick to the public footpaths and if livestock is nearby do keep your dogs on leads.

The Council continue to liaise with Natural England regarding the urgent repairs to the surrounding stock fencing, maintenance of the surrounding hedgerows and future maintenance plans in relation to Cliffords meadow.
