‘Celebrating the Heroes of Haydon Wick!’
Haydon Wick Parish runs a civic award scheme annually, which is designed for residents to vote for people that make the parish a lovely place to live and stand out for all the good work they do within the community. The scheme has been running for the last three years and the community has not disappointed in the number of nominations received, which has certainly shown that the local community is full of kindness, consideration and selflessness.
This year, the Council is excited to announce the winners of the annual Haydon Wick Heroes 2023 Awards are as follows:
- The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Rachael Maslin, for her outstanding voluntary work with Absolutely Shine Post Natal Depression (PND) Support Swindon. Absolutely Shine PND Support Swindon is a not-for-profit charity that supports mothers with perinatal mental health issues with creative therapy workshops and drop-in coffee mornings.
- The Young Achiever Award was received by Kaylee Weaving, who volunteered to help with painting the panels on a climbing unit which was being refurbished in a local play area.
- The Community Group of the Year Award was won by the Haydon Wick Memory Café for the dedicated support that goes into running the bi-monthly cafes at the Haydon Wick Bowls Club. One of the volunteers had this to say: “I feel really proud to be part of the Memory Cafe and celebrating its success.”
A spokesperson for the Council said “We have a wonderful, dedicated and valued group of volunteers that we are proud to work alongside of. We want to take the opportunity to celebrate the positives, and to recognise those who deserve a thank-you from their community’.
The award winners received a certificate, a box of heroes and a prize at the recent Annual Parish Council Meeting.
