Join us this Friday as we transform our Parish Room into a welcoming pop-up café for a morning of coffee, cake and community spirit, all in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Come along and enjoy a delicious slice of cake and a hot drink while catching up with friends, neighbours and fellow residents. There will also be a chance to take part in some fun Coffee Morning competitions throughout the event.

Can’t stay? No problem! You can also pick up one of our popular Macmillan Elevenses Takeaway Treat Bags to enjoy at home, at work, or on the go.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday morning for World Cleanup Day in Abbey Meads.

Meeting at the Village Green Play Area, volunteers spent the morning working their way across a large part of Abbey Meads, helping to make our community cleaner, greener and more enjoyable for everyone.

Joining the litter pick were Haydon Wick Parish Councillors Cllr Leigh Jackson, Cllr Sudha Nukana, Cllr Vinay Manro, Cllr Leanne Stevenson, Cllr John Jackson and Swindon Borough Council (Haydon Wick) Ward Councillor Anthony Hedges, along with family members who generously gave up their Sunday morning to support the event.

Together, the team covered a vast majority of Abbey Meads and collected an impressive 11 bags of litter, which were left at Heaton Park Play Area ready for collection.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet residents, enjoy some fresh air, and demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. Events like these show the pride we all have in our local area and the difference community action can make.

A special thank you to everyone who attended, supported the event, and helped make this year’s World Cleanup Day such a success.

Haydon Wick Parish Council is once again joining @KeepBritainTidy’s nationwide army of #LitterHeroes for the 10th Great British Spring Clean. Together, communities have helped collect over 4.5 million bags of litter since the campaign began… and we’re ready to add even more. 🚮💚 

🏆 Our pledge for 2026:
We are aiming to collect 200 bags of litter across the Parish — and with your help, we know we can smash it! 

So, grab a friend, lace up your walking shoes, and help us show some love to the places we live, walk, play, and care about. Every bag makes a difference!

✔️ Pick up litter bags from the Parish Council Office, Thames Avenue
✔️ Leave full bags next to any litter bin around the parish

What to wear:

YOU MUST AT ALL TIMES BE WEARING HI-VIZ VEST/CLOTHING

WE ADVISE WEARING SUITABLE GLOVES, SENSIBLE FOOTWEAR AND A WATERPROOF JACKET (a small bag with a few plasters and tissues in it put in a pocket would be a good idea)

 

DO NOT PICK UP ANY OF THE FOLLOWING AS OUR OPERATIVES WILL DEAL WITH IT:

NEEDLES/SYRINGES

EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN PICKING UP GLASS, IF IN DOUBT PLEASE PHONE THE OFFICE

PLEASE INFORM OFFICE AS WE HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO DEAL WITH THESE

DO NOT PICK UP DOG FAECES

PLEASE LEAVE BAG/S WHERE THEY CAN BE EASILY SEEN FOR OUR OPERATIVES TO COLLECT

ALTERNATIVELY, PLACE BY ONE OF OUR BINS OR AT YOUR PROPERTY FOR US TO COLLECT

 

FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY:

  1. KEEP CLEAR OF ROAD EDGES AND WATERWAYS – DO NOT STAND IN CENTRAL RESERVATION AREAS
  2. WET LITTER CAN BE HEAVY, BE AWARE OF YOUR LIMITATIONS
  3. LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND AN IDEA OF HOW LONG YOU WILL BE OUT
  4. IF POSSIBLE, CARRY A CHARGED MOBILE PHONE WITH YOU
  5. SHOULD YOU COME ACROSS A LARGE ITEM PLEASE INFORM THE OFFICE, DO NOT TRY TO MOVE IT YOURSELF
  6. WASH HANDS BEFORE EATING/DRINKING OR SMOKING
  7. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, GENERAL PUBLIC AND DOGS

The power of collective action
#LitterHeroes unite! Haydon Wick Parish Council is proud to be part of the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign – @KeepBritainTidy’s #GBSpringClean.
In 2024, @KeepBritainTidy’s #LitterHeroes collected over 425,000 bags of litter. Together we can make the tenth #GBSpringClean in 2025 even bigger.
We have pledged to collect 200 bags of litter during this campaign. Can we count on you to show your love for where you live by helping us clean up the places and spaces we care about?.
Join us and help @keepbritaintidy mark its tenth #GBSpringClean – with more than 4 million bags collected since 2016 can you help us boost the big total? You can collect litter bags from the Parish Council Office. Please leave full bags next to litter bins around the parish and let us know where to collect them, email: tidyup@haydonwick.gov.uk.
Remember to take photos and send them to Liz at: marketing@haydonwick.gov.uk so we can share the positive effect your efforts are having in our community and to pledge how many bags you think you will be able to collect during the Spring Clean.

Do you know someone who makes Haydon Wick a better place to live? A volunteer who goes above and beyond, a young person achieving great things, or a community group that brings people together. Now is your chance to give them the recognition they deserve!
Award Categories:
Young Achiever
Celebrating outstanding young people (under 18) who have made exceptional contributions to our community through leadership, innovation, or service to others.
Volunteer of the Year
Recognising individuals who selflessly give their time and energy to make Haydon Wick a better place, whether through organising community events, supporting vulnerable residents, or championing local causes.
Community Group of the Year
Honouring groups that have made a significant positive impact on our parish through their collective efforts and dedication to improving community life.
How to Nominate: 
Nominating your local hero is easy! You can:
– Download form from our website or Submit online at: https://haydonwick.gov.uk/haydon-wick-heroes/
Remember to include specific examples of how your nominee has made a difference in our community. The more detail you provide, the better chance they have of being recognised for their contributions.
Important Information
– Nominations are open to all residents of Haydon Wick Parish
– Multiple nominations are welcome
– All nominees must have made their contributions within the parish boundaries
– We cannot accept nominations for Council staff or Council services
– Winners will be announced at this year’s Annual Parish Meeting in April with a special ceremony celebrating their achievements

‘How incredible that Haydon Wick’s youngest generation are helping to save our planet’.

 

On Monday the 19th June, the Council staff had the pleasure of meeting a local childminder and four of her wonderful young people. The office was filled with excitement and chitter chatter as they got dressed up in their high visibility tabards and hard hats. Armed with bags, a hoop and litter picking sticks, off they set on a mission to keep Haydon Wick a lovely place to live and work and help save Planet Earth.

 

It is vital to teach our young people as early as possible the importance of looking after our environment. Not only for the enjoyment and well-being of the current population, but for the health and enjoyment of those in future generations.

 

Along with this, the wildlife certainly appreciates the hard work and dedication of volunteer litter pickers as they get to enjoy a safe a clean home. It is refreshing to see how enthusiastic these young people are about doing such a good job. Well done environmental Warriors!
