Haydon Wick Parish Council has received an update from Councillor David Renard, regarding recent work carried out by Thames Water.

“I have spoken to Thames Water regarding their traffic management and how they can facilitate opening roads quicker when works result in having to close the road for safety reasons. Thames Water appreciate that road closures cause more disruption to residents, but safety to the work force carrying out the works to get the water pipes fixed takes priority. Thames Water have stated they will be siting a traffic management compound at Highworth so that their operatives do not need to travel as far as they do to clear the highway of traffic management, or have roads closed longer than they need to be.

In this case in Pond Street, the road needed to be kept closed for longer so that a machine could sufficiently clean the road of spoil before it could be opened again. The crew working to fix the pipe or reinstate the excavation, do not have the correct machinery or tools to deal with the amounts of spoil that was spread across the road.”
