A huge well done to the pupils of Greenmeadow Primary School 2560 1920 Liz Matthews
Councillors were delighted to visit the school to present a prize of craft materials in recognition of the pupils’ fantastic contribution to our “What Does Haydon Wick Mean to You?” bus shelter project.
The children shared wonderful designs, creative ideas and inspiring artwork that helped shape our final bus shelter mural.
Their enthusiasm and imagination played a vital role in making the project such a success.
Thank you, Greenmeadow Primary School, for helping to celebrate what makes Haydon Wick such a special community!

Haydon Wick Haven

Haydon Wick Haven 2048 2048 Liz Matthews
Tea, chat and plenty of conversation at Haydon Wick Haven.
We had a lovely morning at the Haven today, welcoming a couple of new faces alongside our regular visitors.
We were joined by a Will writer who shared some useful advice on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA), and offered free guidance.
One key tip: Keep track of where your Will is stored, and make sure those named in it can find it and access it when needed.
There were crosswords, plenty of laughs and lively conversations about local issues, including noisy roads, footpaths and upcoming events, especially Christmas!
The Haven is all about friendly faces, good company and bringing people together.
Why not pop in for a cuppa, have a chat and meet some new people? Everyone is welcome.
Next Haven: Monday 2nd November 2026, 11am–1pm

Haydon Wick Parish Memory Café

Haydon Wick Parish Memory Café 1600 1200 Liz Matthews
Another brilliant morning at the Memory Café.
We kicked off the morning with a trivia and general knowledge quiz, and what a way to get the brain cells buzzing.
There were plenty of “I knew that!” moments, lots of laughter, and a bit of friendly rivalry too.
Then it was time for the entertainment. We were delighted to welcome Jason, who sang for us with a lovely mix of modern tunes and old favourites. Before long the whole room was singing along, and a few of our residents even got up for a dance.
The joy in the room was something special.
Mornings like this remind us just how powerful music, laughter and good company can be. They bring people together, spark happy memories and lift everyone’s spirits.
A huge thank you to Jason for such a fantastic performance, and to everyone who came along and made it such a joyful morning.
Want to join us? Everyone is welcome, whether you’re living with memory loss or caring for someone who is living with Dementia, pop along and see what we get up to.
The next Memory Café will be held on Wednesday 28th October, 10.30am–12.30pm, at Haydon Wick Bowls Club.

What a Choc-tastic Night

What a Choc-tastic Night 1050 1182 Liz Matthews

A huge THANK YOU to our awesome residents who joined us for our Charity Chocolate Bingo evening!

From chocolate bingo prizes and a chocolate raffle to our coveted golden ticket, there was chocolate galore all night long!
Add in a few quizzes, plenty of laughs, and a fantastic community spirit, and it made for a truly memorable evening.
We’re delighted to share that we raised £1,230.00 for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), helping to support the incredible work they do in standing against suicide and supporting people through life’s toughest moments. That is equivalent to 100 answered phone calls.
A special shout-out to The Haydon Wick Club for being such brilliant hosts. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along, bought raffle tickets, joined in the fun, and supported this wonderful cause.

Together, we’ve made a real difference!

What a lovely day we had!
We tucked into some lovely, fresh and filling fish and chips, and Tony M joined us with a fantastic array of songs that had everyone singing along.
There was plenty of laughter and dancing too, which was just what we needed on a wet Friday afternoon. ☔💃🕺
Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a happy afternoon. Here’s to doing it all again soon!

Parks & Open Spaces Update

Parks & Open Spaces Update 2560 2560 Liz Matthews
Hedges & Shrubs
The team has made great progress opening up the main pathways across the Parish, and this work will continue, with some Autumn projects carried out along the way.  Please take care when travelling through these areas. The tractor is also due a well-earned service to keep it in top condition for the future.
Grass
A phased return to grass cutting has begun, but please note that cutting will cease from 31st October. From then, the whole grass team will move over to crown lifting and reactive works reported through the Parks & Open Spaces (POS) reporting system.
POS Reporting
Between 9th August and 9th October, 116 Parks & Open Spaces requests were submitted and 75 have been completed, which is a 65% completion rate. The most common issue was hedges and shrubs. Other requests in this period included litter and flytipping, graffiti and street sweeper requests.
Parks and Projects
Alongside supporting a wide range of functions, the team has renovated a park bench and replaced child swings at various play areas.  Several purchases have also been made to repair basket swings and other play park equipment, and the new equipment will be installed as soon as it is delivered.
Tidy Up
The team has continued to respond to fly tipping incidents while carrying out daily duties. Litter picking has become a daily routine along Akers Way and the Green Meadow shops, as rubbish is regularly thrown from vehicles. Many graffiti concerns have also been tackled, including underpasses, lamp posts and bus shelters.
Sweeper
The sweeper machine has had an extensive service and repair programme to get it ready for Autumn leaf fall.  It will be supported by backpack blower operatives to keep paths and access points clear for pedestrians and cyclists.

Thank You for Helping Shape the Future

Thank You for Helping Shape the Future 2560 1920 Liz Matthews
A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time to attend today’s Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Consultation Brunch, hosted by Councillors Vinay Manro and Leanne Stevenson, and shared their experiences, ideas, and insights.
Your feedback is invaluable as we begin exploring what a SEND-inclusive outdoor play and activity space for teenagers and adults could provide. The conversations we’ve had today will help us better understand local needs and ensure that any future plans are shaped by the people who matter most.
We’re incredibly grateful to Little Grazey for providing the beautiful brunch platters that helped make the morning so welcoming. 🥐☕
We appreciated the insight from key speakers Infinity Playgrounds and Harlequin Group, and the shared experiences from Mums on a Mission, Teamability, Uplands Trust, GLL Haydon Centre, SEND School Teachers and the Support Workers & Residents from Argyll House. Together, we’re taking the first steps towards creating more inclusive, accessible outdoor spaces that support wellbeing, independence and community connection for everyone. 💜
If you weren’t able to join us, there’s still time to have your say by completing our short survey: 👉 https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/5kaEaxCKuT
