At Haydon Wick Parish Council, your views help shape the services, facilities and projects we deliver across the parish.

As part of our Community-Led Action Plan, you told us that the things that matter most are:

  • A Clean and Well-Maintained Place
  • A Kind, Connected and Caring Community
  • A Green and Sustainable Environment
  • A Safe and Friendly Place to Live

Now it’s time for a check-in.

Are we focusing on the right priorities? Are we making a positive difference in the areas that matter most to you? What are we doing well, and where could we improve?

The Parish Council is asking all residents to take a few minutes to complete our short “How Are We Doing?” survey. Your feedback will help us understand whether we’re on the right track and identify any new priorities for the future.

Every response is valuable and helps ensure that the Parish Council continues to work on the issues that are most important to our community.

A Skip Full of Support for CALM!
A Skip Full of Support for CALM! 1920 2560 Liz Matthews
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Scrap Metal Collection fundraiser in support of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
Thanks to the generosity of local residents, we filled an entire skip with unwanted metal items, from bikes and lawnmowers to car parts, windows and much more, helping to raise over £200 for charity.
A special thank you to Cllr Leigh Jackson for organising this fantastic fundraising initiative, and to Cllrs Hailstone, Ireland, J. Jackson, Manro, Nukana and Roupelis for giving their time to support the event.
We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Steve Dragg, Steve Narbett, and Paul from EMR Swindon, who generously gave up his annual leave to help on the day, as well as the wider EMR team for their support.
The event was about more than fundraising. It was a wonderful opportunity to speak with residents, hear local concerns, and bring our community together. It was fantastic to see so many people supporting a great cause while helping to recycle valuable materials.
Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, promoted and supported the event. This was a brilliant example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to make a difference.

Macmillan Coffee Morning 2026

What a fantastic coffee morning! We were delighted to exceed last year’s event, thanks to the incredible turnout and overwhelming support from our community.
Together, we raised over £365 for Macmillan Cancer Support – a wonderful achievement made possible by everyone’s generosity.
A special thank you goes to our talented volunteers, who baked a delicious selection of homemade treats, including fruit cakes, lemon drizzle cake, Bakewell tarts, carrot cake, Victoria sponges, and a variety of biscuits.
It was heart-warming to see so many people come together to support such a worthy cause, make new connections, and enjoy great conversations over coffee and cake.
Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, baked, and helped make the event such a success.

A Morning at the Companions Café
This morning, our Companions Café was full of warmth – a mix of uplifting chats and some harder, more emotional conversations.  That’s exactly what this safe space is for: being there for one another, sharing our journeys and our difficulties, safe in the knowledge that our loved ones living with dementia are being well looked after by Right at Home Swindon
We were also pleased to welcome the Head of Commissioning for Swindon Borough Council , who came along to listen to residents’ concerns and questions. She heard directly from everyone, and will return soon to share her next steps.
Thank you to everyone who came along and spoke so openly. Your voices matter, and we’re grateful for your trust.

What a wonderful session at Memory Café today.
Ben joined us for his very first visit and treated everyone to some singing. He soon had the whole room joining in. He even stayed on for Lin’s seated exercise class at the end of the session.
Music and movement can be so beneficial for people living with dementia. They can lift spirits, bring back happy memories, encourage connection, and keep everyone moving and flexible.
📅 The next Memory Café will be held on Wednesday 14th October, 10.30am–12.30pm, at Haydon Wick Bowls Club.

What a cosy and colourful morning at the Haven 🧶✨
Today was all about slowing down, enjoying a cuppa, and catching up with lovely friends. Between the chatter and the laughter, busy hands got stuck into some wool craft, making  Woolly flowers and Dreamcatchers.

Join us this Friday as we transform our Parish Room into a welcoming pop-up café for a morning of coffee, cake and community spirit, all in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Come along and enjoy a delicious slice of cake and a hot drink while catching up with friends, neighbours and fellow residents. There will also be a chance to take part in some fun Coffee Morning competitions throughout the event.

Can’t stay? No problem! You can also pick up one of our popular Macmillan Elevenses Takeaway Treat Bags to enjoy at home, at work, or on the go.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday morning for World Cleanup Day in Abbey Meads.

Meeting at the Village Green Play Area, volunteers spent the morning working their way across a large part of Abbey Meads, helping to make our community cleaner, greener and more enjoyable for everyone.

Joining the litter pick were Haydon Wick Parish Councillors Cllr Leigh Jackson, Cllr Sudha Nukana, Cllr Vinay Manro, Cllr Leanne Stevenson, Cllr John Jackson and Swindon Borough Council (Haydon Wick) Ward Councillor Anthony Hedges, along with family members who generously gave up their Sunday morning to support the event.

Together, the team covered a vast majority of Abbey Meads and collected an impressive 11 bags of litter, which were left at Heaton Park Play Area ready for collection.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet residents, enjoy some fresh air, and demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. Events like these show the pride we all have in our local area and the difference community action can make.

A special thank you to everyone who attended, supported the event, and helped make this year’s World Cleanup Day such a success.

Our Charity Curry & Quiz Night in support of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) was not only a sell-out, it was an absolutely fantastic evening!

Guests enjoyed a delicious meal provided by the wonderful team at Taste of Bharat, tested their local knowledge with a fun-filled Swindon-themed quiz, and shared plenty of laughter throughout the night.

As if great food, brilliant company and entertaining quiz questions weren’t enough, together we raised an incredible £875 through ticket sales and raffle ticket purchases!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, dug deep into their pockets and supported such an important cause. Every ticket purchased and raffle entry made a real difference.

Special thanks to:

  • Cllr Sudha Nukana for organising the event.
  • Cllr Leigh Jackson for keeping everyone entertained as quiz master (with questions provided by Cllr Nathan Bradley).
  • Tracey Boxell, Swindon’s CALM Ambassador for putting together some truly amazing raffle hampers.

Tracey helped put the evening’s fundraising into perspective, explaining that the £875 raised could help fund around 77 potentially life-saving calls to CALM’s helpline. It was a powerful reminder of why supporting mental health services matters and why we remain committed to raising as much as we can for this worthy cause.

Thank you for helping us turn a great night out into something that could make a real difference to people’s lives.

Pedestrians First. Always!

At a recent Full Council meeting, a resident raised concerns about the increasing use of e-bikes on shared pathways and walkways. Issues highlighted included excessive speed, pedestrians feeling startled when bikes approach, and particular challenges for older residents who may not hear bells or warnings in time.

In response, Haydon Wick Parish Council has launched a social media awareness campaign to promote considerate use of shared paths and reinforce a simple message: Pedestrians First. The campaign aims to encourage everyone using our shared spaces to slow down, stay alert, and show courtesy and respect to others, helping to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for all.

Our first message in the campaign is simple:

Pedestrians First. Always!
As children return to school this September, our footpaths and shared-use routes will become even busier with families, students and residents travelling around Haydon Wick.
We’re seeing more cyclists, scooters, mobility scooters and other wheeled users on our pathways than ever before. While active travel is encouraged, it’s important to remember that some pedestrians, particularly older residents and those with visible or unseen disabilities, can find fast-moving vehicles passing close by frightening or intimidating.
If you’re riding, please:
✅ Slow down around pedestrians
✅ Give plenty of space when passing
✅ Use a bell or politely announce your approach
✅ Follow signs on shared-use paths
✅ Be extra vigilant around schools and at drop-off and pick-up times
✅ Remember that pedestrians are the most vulnerable path users
What feels like a safe speed to you can feel very different to a young child, an older resident, or someone with mobility, sight or hearing difficulties.
A little patience and consideration goes a long way.
