The Council is currently seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified contractor to reinstall the safety surface at the Village Green Play Area. The play area has one area of play bark loose fill surface. The existing bark loose fill surface area is being removed and a new rubber wet pour surface to be laid. The colour and design of the safety surfacing is a chance for the contractor to be innovative which complements the natural surroundings.

Bids need to be received by Monday 9^th January 2023.

Clarification Questions & Answers

Q1) What is the Area Size? 165m2

Q2) Depths you would want to go to? Minimum of 50mm other depths to be in line with free fall heights.

Q3) Colours of the wet pour surface? As a minimum Black with colour fleck.

Q4) What edges is there to the area to be surfaced? Currently heavy-duty roadside kerbs, we would expect these to be removed and replaced with pin kerbs.

Q5) What is the access to the site? Vehicle access is restricted to public footpaths, works vehicles would require to be parked on grass areas. Due to the proposed contract time frame protection of the grass would be required and any damage caused to be re-instated by the contractor.

‘Connie is now officially ‘set in stone’’

At the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic young people from Haydon Wick Parish created a ‘Covid snake’ who was later named Connie. Young people placed their beautifully decorated pebbles at Heaton Close Play Area during the first national lockdown. These were painted with inspirational quotes, colourful pictures, and lovely words such as ‘Thank you NHS’, ‘Be Kind’ and ‘Friends and Family’. Over time, more and more pebbles appeared, until Connie grew to her full length.

Haydon Wick Parish Council collected the rocks and kept them safe and encouraged even more to be painted in the year that followed. Fast forward to October 2022, and the Parish Council is delighted that on Saturday 22^nd October, at 12.00 midday, young people joined with Councillors and Staff of Haydon Wick Parish Council to permanently set Connie in stone.

Haydon Wick Skate Park has now got a wonderfully colourful and unique snake that will be a permanent reminder of how residents felt during such an unprecedented time in our lives.

Winter Work Schedule

The Parks & Open Spaces Team will soon be conducting its winter work schedule. Reoccurring items on the work schedule include:

Low level branch removal
Clearing ivy from the base of trees
Street sweeping and clearing the leaves from the footpaths
Cleaning the play area surfaces

The Team is currently servicing, maintaining and sharpening the tools for the job as well as carrying out usual duties such as litter picking, emptying the public waste bins, inspecting and making repairs to the play areas and dealing with day-to-day public enquiries.

Running concurrently with the winter projects, the Council’s chosen Autumn/Winter Shrub Bed & Hedges Maintenance Contractor (Teign Trees & Landscaping) is working its way through the Parish making good progress in Abbey Meads.

All of the above will ensure that the community of Haydon Wick remains a lovely and desirable place to live, work or send the children to school.
