Be A Smarter Parker- Safe Parking Campaign

Be A Smarter Parker- Safe Parking Campaign 1200 1200 Haydon Wick

Haydon Wick Parish Council receives regular correspondence regarding unsafe parking and as such we are launching a local campaign alongside Swindon Borough Council and North Swindon Police to raise awareness of safer parking. The Highway Code states that you shouldn’t park your car even partially on the pavement unless roadside signs permit you to do so.

It is extremely frustrating if pedestrians, pushchairs, or wheelchairs cannot pass by a parked car due to parking on a pavement or at a dropped curb. Along with the inconvenience caused on foot, there have been incidents in the past, where emergency vehicles have not been able to gain access to properties.

Please join us in raising awareness around the parish. Feel free to print our poster and display it at your property or business. It will be displayed in notice boards around the parish.

Help keep Haydon Wick Parish a safe place to be.

*** Update from Young at Heart Over 60’s Club *** 150 150 Haydon Wick

As we look towards the summer and hopefully some good weather, we are looking forwards this years outings and a holiday, as things are getting back to some kind of normality.

We had a small Easter Raffle with some chocolates and Easter Eggs as prizes. We also has an Easter bonnet competition, with prizes for the best three, but it was very difficult to choose as they were all very good; we have some very talented members.

Our first outing of the year was to Abergavenny for the day. It is a lovely market town with both indoor and outdoor markets, and has a good shopping centre. It is very easy to spend a large amount of money. After lunch we made our way to Leading Labels where we had a cup of tea and some lovely cake, and another chance to spend some money, as they had some lovely shops in there. It was so good to be able to get out and about.

Now we are looking forward to our holiday at Eastbourne, and our next outing to Windsor. Along with this we are also planning to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, but more about those next time.

‘Haydon Wick Parish Council makes generous donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine appeal’

‘Haydon Wick Parish Council makes generous donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine appeal’ 1900 1200 Haydon Wick

Haydon Wick Parish Council have pledged to make a generous donation of £2,500.00 to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine appeal and have praised the DEC’s “incredible” total which has topped £260 million (at time of writing), and £2,500.00 to The British Red Cross (Ukraine Crisis Appeal).

During the Full Council meeting in March, Haydon Wick Parish Councillors considered and discussed the benefits of donating money to local charities rather than sending supplies, as it is widely reported that the charities on the ground know first-hand what the people of Ukraine need and where to source it.  It was considered that a monetary donation will also be of benefit due to the increased costs in fuel and food. Chairman Vinay Manro said that

‘I want to state that Haydon Wick Council condemns the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine and stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and their families and friends, including those local to Swindon’.

In addition to the generous donation, Councillors have approved the use of the Council Office meeting room facilities to host a café style drop-in facility for newly arrived Ukrainian nationals. Councillor Ellen Baker Lee said that

‘Haydon Wick will be welcoming Ukrainian citizens in the coming months. Having been through much trauma, it occurred the Parish Council that they may be feeling quite isolated and homesick. We are currently developing a Ukrainian Café facility to assist with this.  The café will enable people to meet and socialise in a safe environment. The idea is that we would run it in much the same way as our successful Memory Cafe. This idea is currently under discussion, and we will keep our residents posted’.

Council hosts successful Annual Parish Meeting and celebrates local heroes

Council hosts successful Annual Parish Meeting and celebrates local heroes 1900 1200 Caroline Hunt

Haydon Wick Parish Council hosted it’s Annual Parish Assembly last night, celebrating the achievements of the past year and local heroes.  The meeting was an opportunity to look ahead to the future development of the Council, highlighting projects such as the @HaydonWick Your Community Matters survey, and the Community Choices Project. The meeting was very well attended, and after two years of virtual meetings due to the Pandemic – a welcome return for everyone.

Councillor Vinay Manro, Chairman of Haydon Wick Parish Council said:

“Haydon Wick Parish is currently the third largest parish in Swindon, based on the number of residents and we are glad that we are able to deliver many services at best value. Out of the 20 parishes across Swindon we are mid table in terms of annual precept cost. We are driven to bring our residents a high level of service at a fair cost. We are also residents, so we have the same interest in wanting the best for Haydon Wick.

Across this year, my first at Chairman of the Council, I have been meeting more and more residents, groups and partner organisations. The common thread is that most do not realise how much the Parish Council delivers on behalf of its residents. This is noted and we are actively looking at ways to continue enhancing how we communicate with you.

As a Council we are currently working on our future strategy for the next 5 years, which will help give us a focused plan. We have actively consulted with residents and asked residents to complete a survey at the beginning of the year. We are asking you, our residents, for what you would like to see delivered by us. We are listening.

We have spent a lot of time reshaping our service delivery based on your feedback. Over the last two years we have put more resources into maintaining the open spaces, as you have told us you are using them more, and we have continued to work on our youth services programme, and providing services to some of our most vulnerable in our community.

Before we go into more detail on everything this Council is delivering and future plans through my very capable chairs of committees, I want to put out a heartfelt thanks to all of our Councillors, Staff and volunteers who continue to help make Haydon Wick Parish Council what it is today and help drive us into the future for our residents.”

Chairman’s Statement: Support for Ukraine

Chairman’s Statement: Support for Ukraine 1900 1200 Caroline Hunt

I am immensely troubled by the horrific devastation and illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, and the escalating humanitarian crisis facing the Country.

Haydon Wick Parish Council has a proud history of supporting those in most need regardless of crisis. The Government has not asked local authorities to receive refugees from Ukraine as things stand. But we will be ready to support those fleeing Ukraine however we can.

This Council extends its thoughts and prayers to members of the Ukrainian community and pays tribute to the incredible generosity the people of Swindon have shown in their personal efforts to support the humanitarian response to this crisis.

Here just some of the ways residents can show their support for Ukraine:

Donations

The easiest and most effective way to support the humanitarian situation in Ukraine is to make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine appeal. The UK Government has also said that it will match every £ donated.

Donate safely on the DEC website https://www.dec.org.uk/

The DEC and other major charities are asking for donations of money rather than goods. Donating money allows international charities such as the DEC to procure what’s required on the ground, so it can be delivered to people more quickly rather than trying to transport goods from the UK to Ukraine.

Homes for Ukraine scheme

This bespoke scheme will offer a route to those who want to come to the UK who have someone here willing to provide them with a home. It will enable individuals, charities, community groups and businesses to volunteer accommodation and provide a route to safety for Ukrainians, and their immediate family members, forced to escape their homeland.

Sponsors should provide accommodation for as long as they are able, but there is a minimum expectation of 6 months.
