Your Community, Your Choice: £7,500 Up for Grabs

For the fifth year running, our Community Choices initiative is now live and ready for your votes!

This is your chance to vote on your favourite projects – there is £7,500 available to bring your choices to life.

Building on Success
For the past four years, our community has focused on the theme “Reducing Loneliness & Isolation,” – creating lasting connections and friendships throughout Haydon Wick. Your enthusiasm and participation have helped shape a vibrant programme of events that continues to bring neighbours together. Now, it’s time to take the next exciting step in our community’s journey.

2025 Theme: “Celebrating Community”
This year, we’re showcasing the very best of Haydon Wick with seven inspiring projects to choose from. With £5,000 for general community projects and £2,500 specifically earmarked for youth initiatives, your vote will help determine which projects move forward.

The Projects

1. Community Art Projects – Transform our streets with vibrant murals and commemorative wood carvings that tell our community’s story.
2. Enhanced Community Events – Build on the success of 2024 by making our VE Day 80th Anniversary, Summer, and Christmas celebrations even more spectacular. Your support means bigger, better family events throughout the year.
3. Wild Wick Community Garden – Imagine a peaceful haven at Ventnor Road Leisure Garden – a green space where biodiversity flourishes and residents can find tranquillity in nature.
4. Performing Arts in the Community – Bring the magic of outdoor theatre to Haydon Wick! Celebrate our community’s cultural diversity through creative performances under the open sky.
5. Thyme Close Play Area Revival – Join forces with local volunteers to breathe new life into this beloved play park, creating a vibrant space for our children to enjoy.
6. Dog Play Area – Create a safe, enclosed space where our four-legged friends can run free and their owners can connect.
7. Celebrate our Community: Festival of Stories – A wellbeing event that brings together diverse cultural traditions and welcomes refugees into our community. Through art, food, and conversation, discover the rich stories behind our neighbours’ journeys while building meaningful connections.
8. Community Safety Initiative – Support the installation of a knife amnesty bin, demonstrating our commitment to keeping Haydon Wick safe for everyone.

How to Have Your Say
Your voice matters! Through online surveys, feedback forms, social media, and the Haydon Wick “Living” Magazine, you’ve helped shape our community’s future. Now it’s time to decide which projects will receive funding for 2025/26.
The success of previous initiatives proves that when we come together, amazing things happen.

Haydon Wick Parish Council is now a NHS vitamin distribution point. Call into the Parish offices to collect your vitamins.

What is Healthy Start?
If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk. Apply online at www.healthystart.nhs.uk.
If you’re eligible, you’ll be sent a Healthy Start card with money on it that you can use in some UK shops. We’ll add your benefit onto this card every 4 weeks.

You can use your card to buy:
plain liquid cow’s milk
fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
infant formula milk based on cow’s milk

You can also use your card to collect:
Healthy Start vitamins – these support you during pregnancy and breastfeeding
vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old.
