Haydon Wick Parish Council is delighted to team up with Draycott Sports to support this summer’s sports camp and committed to funding £1,500.00 from the council’s budget.

Draycott Sports Camp provides an active environment that is inclusive and engaging for all abilities. The camp focuses on helping children to be more active and to introduce them to new sports.

Mark Draycott from Draycott Sports Camp:

“All of the Draycott Sports Camp team are extremely grateful to the Haydon Wick Parish Council for supporting us to enrich our Holidays Activities and Food children’s summer holiday with us. The extra funding has allowed our campers to stay on with their friends, to enjoy two more sporting activities, completing a whole day of fun at Draycott Sports Camp. Thank you so much for your support.”

Councillor Rebecca Ross, Community Development Committee Chairman had this to say about the programme:

” I’m pleased we have been able to offer support to children attending Draycott Sports Camp. The funding from Haydon Wick Parish Council will allow more children to attend the camp for the whole day, rather than having to leave after lunch. This is an opportunity for us to give something back to the children in our local neighbourhood.

We believe it’s important to give back to our communities and to inspire and support our youth”.

As part of the Council’s growing programme of youth services it is proud to announce another series of graffiti artwork design workshops this Autumn, utilising its legal graffiti wall installed at the skate park. The Grass Cutting Team has just started its fifth cycle of the parish and is followed closely by a team of two back up operatives and the mini compact sweeper. The team is currently cutting in Haydon Wick/Greenmeadow/Woodhall Park/Moredon area and will shortly move on to Mouldon Hill and Haydon End/Taw Hill.

The Hedge Cutting Team started the official schedule at the end of June cutting in Zone 1 (Abbey Meads). The team is expected to be in Abbey Meads for another four weeks, taking us to the end of July.

The team will then move on to Zone 2 (Haydon End/Taw Hill) early August, which will take three weeks.

Then on to Zone 3 (Haydon Wick) from week commencing 22^nd August 2022 which will take five weeks.

Ending up in Zone 4 (Oakhurst) from 5^th September 2022 which will take one week.

The above scheduling is subject to weather and resources.

There is also a team available for priority hedge cutting such as road junctions, low hanging branches on footpaths and areas that are in need of attention before the planned schedule. Please email tidyup@haydonwick.gov.uk if there are any urgent areas to bring to our attention.

The peak season is always full on for our very busy and hardworking Parks & Open Spaces Team so please give them a boost by saying hello, telling them when they’ve done a good job and email any examples for the social media and website. The collective team work that has gone in to this season so far has been fantastic and the team should be very proud of its achievements.

Parish Council awards £3,000 as part of their Community Grants Scheme

The Parish Council has an annual Community Grants budget of £6,000 which is used to help support local charities and voluntary groups each year with funding to enable them to carry out projects and activities for the benefit of local residents. The grants are awarded three times a year by the Community Development Committee where presentations are given by the charities to the committee before any decision is made.

The Community Development Committee met on the Tuesday 7^th June 2022 and agreed to award a grant of £3,000.00 to AFC Haydon Vale. The grant will be used to fund set up costs and deliver grassroots football at Trent Road.

AFC Haydon Vale has expressed their thanks to the Council for the grant by having this to say:

“The whole committee, its coaches and members would like to thank the Parish Council for awarding us the grant as it will help us to move forward with our project. We look forward to seeing members of the community on Sunday mornings cheering us along!”

Councillor Ellen Baker-Lee, Vice Chairman of Haydon Wick Parish Council had this to say about the application:

“We are delighted to able support Haydon Vale football club. The club’s organiser has a proven track record in helping give young people access to football. We are very aware of the fact that physical activity is imperative for good health”

The Parish Council has a community grants budget which is used to help support local charities and voluntary groups each year with funding to enable them to carry out projects and activities for the benefit of local residents. Our Grants Working Party meets three times a year to consider applications and so far this year we have proudly awarded over £6,324.00 to the following groups: BEST (Be A Better You), Wiltshire Police North Neighbourhood Policing Team, Friends of TWIGS and Wiltshire Search & Rescue.

A spokesperson for the Parish Council said:

“The parish council is committed to developing the community with its grants scheme. This year we set aside £9,000 to give to various community groups and in this round, we were pleased to support TWIGs, Wiltshire Police North Neighbourhood Policing Team and Wiltshire Search & Rescue by giving a combined total of £3,874.00. Our funds will help these fantastic community groups to deliver their services to many.

Liza Lishman, Friends of TWIGS said “We are extremely grateful to Haydon Wick Parish Council for helping Friends of Twigs to supply basic art kits for people on the Art Therapy courses at TWIGS (Therapeutic Work In Gardening in Swindon). These courses give people a safe space to explore their emotions and to reflect on the stresses in their lives – be they caring responsibilities or the effect of the pandemic on their mental health. Participants have time to focus on their wellbeing and to try out new art techniques, many of them inspired by the gardens and natural world around them.”

“We are delighted that we have been able to continue to help our local community and charity organisations during what has been a challenging year for many. We have supported a number of projects this year, not least the Swindon Scrapstore team with food deliveries and support for those shielding within the Parish during National lock-downs. We were thrilled to offer funding to Phoenix Enterprises, to assist with the recruitment and training of Milo the pup, who will become a therapy dog and much valued member of the team. We look forward to seeing the art exhibition of the Tuesday Art Group”.
